2 Tips to Keep the Trees in Your Yard Healthy and Beautiful

Johnni Knight

If you have trees in your yard you need to keep them healthy so they can look beautiful. Trees that are not doing well can make your entire landscaping look bad. This can also be dangerous, as dying trees fall down easily as they become weaker. This could result in the trees damaging your home and much more. To prevent these things from happening, below are two tips to help prevent problems with your trees.

Have Trees Trimmed

It is important to have trees trimmed after they become grown. If the tree is too full at the top, which is known as the canopy, the leaves and branches block the sun from getting through the tree. The sun is important as it helps the tree grow. A full canopy also prevents rain from getting through the leaves, which reduces the amount of water the trees get.

Do not trim your trees on your own as you would likely not do it correctly but could also injure yourself. Instead, hire a residential tree care service to do this for you. The contractor will inspect each tree to make sure it does not have any problems. If problems are found, the tree care service can treat the tree in the proper way. This could be insects or other pests that can be dangerous to trees or there are many tree diseases.

Have your trees trimmed each year or whenever you notice they are overgrown.

Fertilize Trees

Just like flowers, plants, and grass need fertilizer your trees can benefit from fertilizer as well. If your trees lack nutrients, they will not grow to their full potential. This will also increase the chances of the trees getting tree diseases and having pest problems.

Before you fertilize you need to make sure your soil needs fertilization. It may already have everything it needs. You can purchase a soil test kit at any garden supply store and test the soil on your own. You can also hire a professional to do the soil test for you.

The main nutrients trees need to survive are Phosphorus, Nitrogen, and Potassium. Most fertilizers that you purchase will have these nutrients.  Purchase fertilizer at a garden center and follow the instructions on applying it to your soil. The fertilizer will also be good for other things, such as flowers, grass, and plants.
